St Newlyn East continued their recent good form with a 4-0 victory over Looe Town at Cargoll Road thanks to two goals in each half.
With the sun shining down on Cargoll Road, Newlyn thought they had opened the scoring when Ross London appeared to run past the defender to gather a slide-rule pass only for the linesman’s flag to rule out the goal.
London wasn’t to be stopped though and minutes later a defender’s last touch meant he was onside this time and his left foot strike found the bottom corner on 14 minutes. Newlyn almost allowed the visitors back in to the game when a rare defensive error saw the Looe striker race clear but he couldn’t beat Nathan Prentice in Newlyn’s goal.
17-year-old teenager Logan Capeling then celebrated his first home appearance in nearly four months by hammering home a London corner from close range. Despite enjoying the majority of possession Newlyn could not add to their tally before the interval.
The Saints introduced Josh Dingle and Will Perry at half-time and the two both continued to press Newlyn’s advantage creating opportunities down both wings.
However, it wasn’t until the 78th minute when Dan Parsonage raced clear of the visiting defence to calmly finish. Newlyn ended the game on a high when another 17-year-old, Ben Symonds headed home from close range.
This result sees Newlyn leapfrog St Cleer into 6th place in the league. On Wednesday they travel to Torpoint for a midweek fixture before returning to Cargoll Road on Saturday when the host Gunnislake, 2.30pm Kick-off.
