Missing key players through injuries and work commitments Newlyn faced a tough test against a Torpoint side who were on a fine winning run and at full strength.
Newlyn had the breeze in their favour in the first half but couldn’t find a way to trouble the Torpoint keeper Westall. A lack of quality resulting in a number of over hit crosses and set pieces not being capitalised from. Torpoint went ahead from a through ball by Easterbrook which found Chris Westall one-on-one with the Newlyn's keeper Zef Counter, and his left footed shot stung the hands of the falling Counter but it wasn’t enough to keep it out of the home sides net against the run of play.
After 20 mins the visitors doubled their advantage when poor defending allowed the Torpoint winger to fire in off the pot from a tight angle.
After the interval Newlyn were the better team again for the opening fifteen minutes and looked dangerous on a number of occasions especially from Ross and Owen London. However Newlyn's hard work was to be undone when Counter lost sight of a Torpoint cross in the sun and could only manage to palm the 40 yard cross into his net.
The game drew to its close and with a number of changes from either side chances were few and far between. In the dying seconds a foul by Tristan Wood on the edge of his penalty area gave the visitors a fourth goal from the resulting free-kick in a scoreline that wasn't probably a fair reflection on the overall game.
Newlyn will rightly be disappointed with the result but know they will have returning players available again next week when they face Newquay in a local derby at Mount Wise.
