St Newlyn East brought their first full season in the East Cornwall Premier League to a close with a narrow defeat away at current leaders Gunnislake.
Newlyn started brightly and their hard work and endeavour was frustrating the home side's dominance. Newlyn's defence held firm despite the growing pressure with Harry Hay in particular a rock at its heart. However a lack of communication on 30 minutes allowed Gunnislake to take the lead when a long cross from the left was sent in to the box between Saints' Sam Lawrence and goalkeeper Nathan Prentice which was met with a well placed header in to the bottom corner of the net.
Newlyn also had their moments in front of goal with Ross London and Dan Woodgate unable to convert their opportunities.
The second half saw Newlyn continue to trouble the home side and the two teams could not be separated. Lucas Moses had a glorious golden chance to equalise but he was unable to score from close range. London was also unable to get the ball out of his feet to strike hsi shot cleanly and his effort went just wide of the post.
