Newlyn left to rue disallowed goal

Torpoint started brightly with an early goal around 5 minutes with Hussey playing a diagonal into the striker to finish well. Newlyn weren't put off by an early goal conceded though, and equalised not long after. Owen London tucked one low into the corner to equalise from 16 yards to leave the home goalkeeer rooted.

Torpoint took the lead again shortly after, with a Hussey set piece finding Westall unmarked at the back post for a neat cushioned volley into the corner before Ferguson got his goal soon after and Torpoint's third in the half. With the half drawing to a close came the game's moment of controversy when a Newlyn corner was swung in and met well by a strong header from Elliott Powell. It was blocked by Hussey behind the line, smashed towards goal again and saved by teh keeper - again over the goal line for seconds of chao and with every Newlyn player adamant it was over the goal line Torpoint managed to clear. Both efforts crossed the line but to the home side's huge fortune a goal wasn't given.

Newlyn started the second half on the front foot and Torpoint's quality began to lack in possession, with Newlyn working hard to pressurise and chase the next all important goal. The next goal wasn't until the 73rd minute, with another Torpoint free-kick that saw Newlyn's Powell - who had his header over the line in the first half ruled out - saw his strong header in the wrong direction fly into his net for 4-1.

A few changes for both sides at this point saw Newlyn gain the advantage again and they responded quickly to pull another goal back, with undoubtedly the best goal of the game with a fierce drive into the top corner from the impressive Ross London from 18 yards.

A frustrating result for Newlyn - especially considering the disallowed goal - but they will now re group and look forward to their penultimate home game against Gunnislake on Saturday.
