Newlyn enjoyed one of the most comfortable victories of the season over the division’s bottom side St Columb Major and recorded one of their biggest derby wins – scoring twelve goals without reply – in doing so.
The major surprise of the opening exchanges was that it took the home side 14 minutes to open the scoring having missed glorious opportunities to do so before, when Ross London scored his 23rd goal of the season.
Newlyn’s top marksman doubled his tally from a cutback 2 minutes later before completing a 19-minute hat trick with a fierce strike from his left foot through a cluster of players. Cam Burt raced into the penalty area on 38 minutes, cleverly beating the full back, and smashed a low drive into the far corner of the net to give Newlyn a four-goal lead at the interval.
The half time break saw Newlyn introduce Jackson Rochford and start the second half with more urgency and tempo that despite their first half dominance had been lacking at times in the opening 45 minutes. They were instantly rewarded within 2 minutes of the lick off when Rochford raced down the right wing before crossing for the superb Harry Mugford to finish.
London then turned provider for Jake Watson to score number six before he then scored his 27th goal of the season, walking the ball into an unguarded net giving Newlyn a seven-goal lead with over half an hour remaining to play.
Newlyn introduced Simon Baulch for London at this point, and he also missed gilt edged chances before chipping over the goalkeeper to score on 65 minutes. Rochford then stuck the crossbar from distance before Baulch and Watson added goals nine and ten.
Baulch completed the rout and matched London with his own four goal haul scoring twice in a minute on 79 and 80 minutes.
