St Newlyn East travelled to Bodieve Park on Tuesday night to face a youthful Wadebridge Reserves on the back of two wins and two clean sheets hopeful to secure another three points and keep their current run of form going.
The visitors started brightly and their attacking trio of the London Brothers – Ross and Owen along with Dan Ball were causing the Wadebridge defence problems from the outset.
Ball had a great opportunity to score but fired over the crossbar before Owen London danced his way into the penalty area only for his shot to be well saved. Ross London was then set free but with only the goalkeeper to beat he fired his shot at the advancing keeper who saw the shot cannon to safety off his leg.
Sam Eglinton shot over from distance and Ball had another chance saved when he could not find the power needed to test the goalkeeper.
A fine move down Newlyn’s left wing saw Ross London pull the ball back into the path of the onrushing Harry Mugford who didn’t break stride and hammered a low drive into the far corner to give Newlyn a deserved first half lead on 27 minutes.
The second half continued in much the same way as the first – Newlyn quicker to the challenge, not giving Wadebridge time on the ball and looking threatening going forward.
Ross London had another two chances to score with only the goalkeeper to beat but again was left frustrated as both were saved when a goal seemed certain.
Newlyn made sure of the win when from a corner, Ash Bradshaw kept his composure to place his shot low into the net for Newlyn’s second of the day on 82 minutes.
Newlyn were worthy winners but cannot take time to sit back as the games co thick and fast with their third game in just under six days on Thursday evening when they play and derby against St. Columb Major.
