St Newlyn East threw away the opportunity to move up the table with a muted performance that saw them concede five poor goals that were all their own making.
Despite missing Mugford, Thompson, Kinsella, Perry and Ball from their usual starting 11, Newlyn started brightly and deservedly took the lead on 13 minutes when Jackson Rochford met Ross London’s cross fro the left to volley home.
The home side equalised four minutes later but Newlyn rightly felt aggrieved as two fouls in the build up to the goal – the second a blatant two-handed push in the back of Bradshaw as he was shielding the ball for a goal-kick – allowed a cross to be pulled back for a simple tap-in. Rochford should have restored Newlyn’s lead, but he could not find the finish from close range.
A deep free kick on 38 minutes saw confusion in the Newlyn penalty area and the unfortunate Jadon Gotthardt head past Prentice for an own goal.
Boscastle were then gifted a third goal early in the second half which came from a Newlyn corner that was over hit but retrieved by Chris Sturgess on the far side near the touchline. He then under hit a pass to Cam Burt that was intercepted allowing Boscastle to break and score.
The home side added a fourth on 61 minutes when Gotthardt’s slip allowed the now unmarked striker all the time in the area to score and the home side completed the scoring when Newlyn failed to clear, and the low shot into the goal on 81 minutes that followed completed a miserable day for the travelling Saints.
Newlyn will look to put in a better performance when the travel to St Stephen on Tuesday.
