SAINTS EARN POINT AGAINST TORPOINT!

SAINTS EARN POINT AGAINST TORPOINT!

Saints Sports News26 Mar 2023 - 08:09

Bally rocket secures Newlyn a draw

Newlyn started in positive fashion and with a completely different mindset and attitude form their previous match. The Saint's midfield were winning the contest in the midfield battle with Jack Thompson enjoying the tussell with Torpoint's Western League team captain Darren Hicks.

A few set pieces for both sides caused some difficulty but no one could break the deadlock. Newlyn thought they had done so when a loose ball fell to Owen London who say his shot rattle the crossbar and rebound away to safety.

Very late in the half Torpoint created a good chance with Hicks playing a pass into Easterbrook's run, whose low left footed effort was tipped on to the post ny Prentice and come back off the post for the Torpoint forward to control the rebound and put away on 43mins.

Early on after the restart the dangerous Easterbrook was fouled inside the box by Harry Mugford by the resultant penalty was ordered to be retaken due to encroachment. The retake was put in the same spot but Prentice in goal made a strong save diving to his right. Ten minutes later and the visitors were harshly awarded another penalty when a ball struck the arm of Cam Burt who was trying to regain his footing. Again Prentice made a fine save and this motivated his team as the drove Torpoint back creating good chances to score but also found the Torpoint keeper in fine form saving well from Ross London and notably a fine save diving to tip a piledriver from Jack Thompson over the crossbar

On 75mins Daniel Ball scored from 25yards, surging forward in to space down the right wing before smashing in an unstoppable effort into the roof of the net for arguably the goal of the season to bring Newlyn level. As the game drew to a close Newlyn had more good chances to win it. Owen London again saw his fierce low shot strike a post and rebound to safety and Ross London couldn't direct his header goal bound from Sonny Summers-Evans cross.

Overall Newlyn know this was a performance that was much needed and they will eel that they did enough to earn all three points.
