Newlyn finally returned to Cargoll Road after 9 weeks without a home fixture with high expectations as they played bottom side St Teath but the weather and the visitors were determined to put a dampener on the day.
The home side started brightly and Ross London - starting his first game in over a month - was unlucky to see his shot strike the base of a post and rebound to safety after 5 minutes. A soft free kick harshly conceded by Jack Thompson saw the resulting delivery met by a looping header, that caught Newlyn's keeper Nathan Prentice unawares and in "no-mans land", that dropped into the back of the net .
Owen London brought the Saints level when his fine solo run saw him fire a low shot across the keeper and in to the far corner. However Newlyn's lack of finishing in front of goal that has come to be a regular feature in recent matches continued to plague them as more opportunities to increase their lead were spurned. Minutes before half time a shot was handled in the St Teath penalty area giving Newlyn a penalty that Ross London duly dispatched to the goalkeeper's left.
Harrry Mugford was introduced at half time and he had an immediate impact firing home a low drive from 25 yards for Newlyn's third. The Saints continued to miss chances to increase their advantage and were made to pay for this when St Teath - again from a free kick broke quickly to score a late goal on 83 minutes.
Newlyn still continued to miss-fire in front o goal. Jackson Rochford was unable to hit the target from close range when it seemed easier to score.
Newlyn know that they have games coming up against top of the table sides and must start converting their opportunities against these sides or it will be a different ending!
