Travelling to Looe, the Saints knew they would be up for a challenge as the picth at Looe at this time of year is always a difficult one to play on and a great leveller. Newlyn were able to do their good deed for the day before kick-off when they showed some of the confused Looe players where the home changing room was!!!!!
Despite a good, positive warmup the Saints conceded early to a poorly defended move by Looe following a loss of possession in the home side's half and a long pass that saw the Looe striker when a challenge by the onrushing Prentice in Newlyn's goal.
However. this was followed by a strong response from Newlyn who, playing down the slope, were soon to exert their dominance on the home side. The London brothers were on top form, Ross scoring before 10 minutes from a penalty and younger brother Owen 5 minutes later.
In response, Looe were throwing in some strong and physical challenges early on, and when Owen London questioned the lack of action from the official, he was booked - although not for dissent. On 30 minutes captain Thompson was apparently punched in the throat by a Looe defender after a tussle which amazingly saw the Newlyn skipper penalised with a booking.
The second half produced a very strong performance - especially from Sam Eglinton and James Turpie at the heart of Newlyn's defence, good link-up play and winning challenges across the pitch. Ross London had a glorious opportunity to score a third, but he completely missed the target when one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Jackson Rochford though he had scored his first goal for Newlyn only to see his goal disallowed for a previous foul on the home goalkeeper by Londs.
Overall, this was definitely a performance the Saints can be proud of and one that gave cause for celebration afterwards.
