Newlyn returned to Cargoll Road for the first time in four weeks and secured a win that sees them continue their unbeaten league run at home this season and they could not have hoped for a better start.
After just 24 seconds Daniel Parsonage controlled the ball on the hedge of the penalty area, cut inside on to his left foot and swept the ball home past the stranded goalkeeper. Five minutes later and the home side doubled their advantage when a corner fell to Ross London who brought the ball down and hammered it high into the net off his weaker right foot.
Newlyn then immediately gifted Roche a soft goal to reduce score when a seemingly tame shot was mis-judged by Nathan Prentice in the home goal who failed to gather it and the ball rolled from his grasp to the Roche striker who had the simplest of tap ins. Cometh the hour - cometh the man and Saints' captain Jack Thompson hit a thunderbolt from twenty-five yards that nearly broke the net for Newlyn's third on fifteen minutes.
Owen London was a constant threat, running at the Roche defence and the youngster was cynically brought down on numerous occasions throughout the half. London had the last word though when another mazy run saw him cheekily dummy the goalkeeper before deftly chipping into the goal for Saints' fourth on seventeen minutes.
However, Newlyn contrived to allow Roche back into the game again when James Turpie was adjudged to have fouled a Roche player in the penalty area for the referee to award a penalty kick that was duly dispatched to Prentice's left. With six goals all inside the opening twenty minutes the game threatened to become a genuine goal fest.
The second half saw Newlyn shore up their defence and halt any Roche threat as the home side's midfield also began to dominate and Ross London scored his second of the game five minutes after the re start, coolly finishing low past the goalkeeper - again with his right foot. Owen London, who was now playing as the main striker, thought he'd won a penalty when tackled again from behind only for the referee to waive play on from his vantage spot in the centre circle with fifteen minutes left on the clock!
Newlyn were delighted to earn another three points and were able to emphatically put last week's cup defeat behind them.
