St Newlyn East were knocked out of the Evely Cup at the quarter final stage following two first half set piece goals and a late, late penalty.

The Saints fell behind on 13 minutes when Torpoint's Western league player Darren Hicks headed home from a corner that was poorly defended by the visitors - something that has happened far too often this season. Just over a quarter of an hour later Newlyn again conceded from a free-kick that saw Sam White rose highest to head home.

As the rain started to pour Newlyn started to grow into the game and changes at half time saw them become more of a match for the strengthened Torpoint side.

Despite this Newlyn were unable to find a way back to reduce the arrears and were punished in the 91st minute with a very harsh penalty award against them that even the home side couldn't believe had been awarded in their favour when Sean Kinsella slid in played the ball but saw the referee award a penalty kick. Torpoint's other Western League player playing on the day - Elliot Crawford, duly dispatched the resulting spot kick with the last kick of the game.
