Captain Marvel Mugford leads the way.

St Newlyn East returned to winning ways at home with an emphatic win over Liskeard Reserves to put behind them their receipt two heavy defeats. They were dealt a blow before kick off when Jackson Thompson pulled up injured in the warm up and was not fit to take any further part

Newlyn opened the scoring inside 2 minutes when Captain Marvel - Harry Mugford made a strong challenge on the end of his own penalty area allowing the home side to break with pace ending with Dan Ball firing low under the goalkeeper after bursting into the visitors penalty area from the left wing.

T?he Saints doubled their lead just 2 minutes later when Ash Bradshaw’s free kick was only partly cleared to Mugford who drove home a low strike into the net. Newlyn then suffered another injury blow when Cam Burt pulled up with a hamstring injury and to be replaced by the returning Owen London.

Russell Brooker saw his deft chip land on the roof of the net before Jake Watson won a loose ball on the right wing, beat the defender and smashed the ball into the net, across the diving goalkeeper.

Owen London danced past two defenders on 26 minutes only to see his shot well saved but Watson reacted quickest and pounced for his second of the game from close range.

As the half drew to a close Dan Woodgate helped himself to two goals on 39 and 43 minutes - the first holding off two defenders from Sam Eglinton’s pass to shoot under the goalkeeper and his second a cool finish from Watson’s pass.

Nathan Prentice was called into action for the first time early in the second half diving low to his right before Mugford addded his second and Newlyn’s seventh with a superb left foot drive into the goal from 20 yards.

Newlyn were unable to keep a clean sheet allowing Liskeard a consolation goal on 77 minutes but could have added to their tally late on when both Owen and fellow substitute Ross London both hit the post.

Overall it was a resounding win for Newlyn that will stand them in good stead for a tough mid week encounter at home to Roche.
