Awful Newlyn defeated at Goverseth.

St Newlyn East travelled to Goverseth Park hopeful to reverse the defeat suffered earlier in the season but left knowing they had put in one of their worst performances of the season to date. As well as already missing key players in Sam Eglinton, Chris Sturgess, Ben Lawrence and the attacking trio of The London Brothers - Ross and Owen plus Dan Woodgate, Newlyn also lost Will Perry just a couple of hours before kick off.

However, Newlyn started brightly and the opening exchanges were fairly even but were dealt another blow losing Dan Ball to a hamstring injury after just 10 just minutes with Sean Kinsella a willing replacement. Cam Burt was a constant threat down Newlyn’s right wing as some incisive passing saw him twice set free only for his shots to find the side netting.

The Home side broke the deadlock on 17 minutes when Andrew Butler was set free from a long ball down the left to bear down on goal and fire a low finish past the diving Nathan Prentice. A smart finish from Cameron Bidgood doubled the lead on 28 minutes before a Foxhole corner was poorly defended by Newlyn to allow a free header to add a third 5 minutes later.

Newlyn replaced Probert for Baluch in the half time interval but more poor defending allowed Foxhole to bag a fourth from another long pass after 4 minutes of the restart that saw Ash Bradshaw miss a header allowing Bidgood - a constant threat all game - to race clear and square for Cameron Rowe to score from a simple close range tap-in.

Baulch had a fantastic opportunity to score for Newlyn but was unable to take the opportunity before a goalmouth scramble saw Prynn called into action to save from Sonny Summers-Evans.

Further sloppy play and defending that characterised Newlyn’s display all afternoon allowed Foxhole to add further goals from Bidgood on 72 and 74 minutes - the latter from a free-kick from the half way line that went unchallenged with Foxhole players given the freedom of the penalty area to score.

Newlyn’s misery was compounded with a seventh Foxhole goal by Bould from the penalty spot on 78 minutes but they will be grateful that Jadon Gotthardt only received a yellow card for as punishment for his foul when a red seemed inevitable.

The only positive for The Saints came in the 91st minute with arguably the goal of the game - a left foot rocket that flew into the net via the crossbar from Jake Watson.

A game to try and forget very quickly for Newlyn and to try and put right in their next game at home at Cargoll Road.
